Between The Buried And Me formed in 2000, with the members wishing to move into a more technical metal direction from their hardcore roots. They play a quite technical form of metalcore/death metal (really, only the vocals put this band in the metalcore field), packed with twisted riffs, stop-starts, and tempo changes aplenty. Were it not for the vocals, this band might place in the progressive or technical category. This is pretty intense stuff, the guys are very tight musically and the array of riffs and time changes can at times be overwhelming. This is definitely a band on the rise, though, as 2007's Colors has garnered tremendous critical acclaim (and justifiably so).
