Black Dahlia Murder
Black Dahlia Murder
|
The Swedish melodic death metal style continues to spread its wings far beyond Sweden, with bands from around the world adopting the style first pioneered by luminaries such as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and At The Gates. Detroit's own Black Dahlia Murder is another such band, whose Unhallowed doesn't deviate much from the standard formula but is nonetheless a powerful and ferocious album that fans of the aforementioned groups will surely get into. Vocalist Trevor Strnad deserves a mention simply due to his versatility, as a casual listen of the album reveals what sounds like two vocalists (one, a higher-pitched hardcore-ish yell, the other a more old-school lower-pitched growl), and yet it's Strnad doing both styles in convincing fashion. The band released its second album, Miasma, in 2005.
