Godflesh
|
Industrial grindcore legends Godflesh remain one of the most influential bands in the genre, combining ultra-heavy, slow riffing, harsh vocals, and effective drum machine and effects usage to paint stark, bleak landscapes of noise. Essentially a duo of guitarist/vocalist Justin Broadrick and bassist Ben Green, the band crushed throughout their career yet matured and experimented during their time as well. Though far from the band's own favorite, 1989's Streetcleaner is their most recognized album and arguably their finest moment, although their last studio album, Hymns, is the best the band has done in years. They broke up in 2002 following the departure of Green, with Broadrick later forming Jesu. 2010 sees the pair reuniting for some shows, though a long-term reunion seems unlikely.
