Horse The Band
Horse The Band
|
Horse The Band is getting a bit of mileage from the rather amusing term "Nintendocore" (apparently coined by someone in the press, though the band members themselves dislike the term), supposedly a new brand of music fusing hardcore and electronic keyboards that sound amazingly like '80's video games. Declaring this a new subgenre of metal is laughable, but the term is actually pretty apt for describing this odd band's music. The basis for Horse The Band's style is a sort of adventurous hardcore/metal (though not really in the metalcore world) combined with the aforementioned keyboards. Even without the keyboards this is pretty inventive stuff (some even say progressive), but with the buzzing keyboards it's even more strange and unusual. The vocals, though hardcore-influenced to be sure, aren't as monotonous or shouted as other bands, which is a good thing indeed. Looking down the road, it's not clear whether the Nintendo angle will make the band, or break the band, or neither. For now, this is an entertaining listen, and certainly more interesting than most metalcore bands out there.
