Along with Tourniquet, Living Sacrifice is among the heaviest and most respected Christian extreme metal bands on the scene. Though there has been subtle shifts in direction over the years (an early Slayer thrash style on the debut, a death metal approach on Inhabit, a somewhat more hardcore-influeced style on Reborn, a mixture of several extreme styles on Conceived in Fire), their records have been of a consistently high quality throughout, resulting in their being a recommended band to fans of any of the aforementioned styles.

In May of 2003, the members announced they were amicably splitting up, citing family and other personal reasons for calling it a day. The announcement is the final culmination of an impressive 13-year run for the band.
