Messiah Prophet
Messiah Prophet

Originally known as the Messiah Prophet Band, this Pennsylvania group formed in the late seventies by bassist Dean Pellman, a veteran of the local Christian music scene at the time. He put together a lineup and recorded Rock The Flock in 1984, and eventually they signed to the fledgling Christian label Pure Metal (also home to Bride and Saint), releasing their best-known album, Master To The Metal, in 1986. Even by 80's standards Master is pretty dated and ordinary, adopting a standard hard rock/accessible metal style with the expected heavily Christian lyrics. The band petered out in the late eighties, but many years later manager Ray Fletcher (who, it has been said, basically owned the name and ran the band) recruited an entirely new lineup (only one member, guitarist Frank Caloairo, had any connection with the old band, having toured with them once upon a time), and that lineup released the very different Colors album in 1996.
