The onslaught of European melodic power metal bands continues with Morifade, a Swedish entry that formed in 1992 with five releases, their latest being DomiNation in 2003. They play a pretty classic melodic power metal style with faint progressive overtones, with bands such as Rhapsody Of Fire, Tad Morose, and Evergrey mentioned by others as reference points. A quick listen to DomiNation reveals many of the genre trademarks -- clear, soaring vocals, rollicking double-bass driven riffs, an almost clinical production, and not a lot of innovation. Like many bands in this genre, Morifade don't particularly sound like any one other band but instead sound like the sum of their influences and contemporaries, which in itself is not wholly a bad thing but there is the stigma of a lack of a true identity here. But Morifade are quite accomplished at what they do, and a surefire winner for melodic power metal fans.
