Master is the main band for Paul Speckmann, one of the better known personalities in the American death metal underground. In his earliest days he was part of the Chicago band War Cry, who appeared on Metal Massacre IV and almost signed to Metal Blade, but it was not to be. He later went on to form Death Strike and then Master, and he's also been involved with the Czech band Krabathor as well as other projects over the years. Master's music is old-school, early-nineties style American death/thrash metal, not terribly different from many other such bands, but ferocious and energetic all the same. A variety of lineups have surrounded Speckmann over the years, but a stable lineup has been in place for the last few albums.
