Mustasch is a nice little band hailing from the home of melodic death metal, though that's not what's on display here. The band is fronted by Ralf Gyllenhammar, one of two standout singers for the one-time cult Swedish rock/metal band B-Thong (the other was Tony Jelencovich, who later went on to Transport League and, more recently, M.A.N). They've been popular in their native Sweden, as they were even on a major label (EMI) for several years, signing shortly after their inception in 1998. Musically, Mustasch is often placed in the stoner rock camp, though they aren't as prone to the drawn-out Kyuss-ish psychedelics and jamming, preferring a more straight-ahead, dirty hard rock/metal style. Gyllenhammar is often compared favorably to the Cult's Ian Astbury, his clear, soaring voice is a definite selling point to the band, but so are the songs, rarely complicated but with just the right amount of grit and meanness. Now on a smaller (but metal-oriented) label, it'd be great to see these guys make some international headway.
