Nirvana was, of course, one of the bands that precipitated the grunge scene of the early nineties. There are many who disdain grunge and feel that mention of such groups is not appropriate in a metal forum. While Nirvana's more famous work might not be overly metallic, their first album had a raw feel that definitely traced its roots to punk and metal. Bleach is just a great album (and, aside from Tad's earlier work, one of the few grunge metal albums I like). The rest of Nirvana's short career is best documented elsewhere.
