Radigost is a Russian doom/black metal band, having been formed in 1994 and undergoing the usual string of name changes, lineup shifts, and demo releases before managing a debut album, Nocturne, in 1999. There seems to be two distinct styles here, with the band alternating between a muted, laidback black metal style (think very early Dismal Euphony) and a more ponderous, keyboard-led doomdeath approach. The vocals are consistent with the two styles, meaning a combination of typical black rasping and low, gutteral death growls. There's a fair bit of depth here, well done for a debut album, with a thin production being the only real criticism here. There's enough diversity and breadth in their approach to bode well for the future. As it is, Nocturne is an interesting if not essential first release. They completed their second album, For The Honor Of Our Truth ... For The Honor Of Our Faith, in late 2003.
