Many doom bands owe a lot to St. Vitus, as they were doing the ultra-slow, first-album-Sabbath dirge long before it became fashionable, forming in 1979 and debuting in 1984. Their sound was quite raw in places, particularly on the early albums, where the production was occasionally a bit primitive. The band has been fortunate to feature three classic doom vocalists in their career, with doom god Wino currently at the mic. They broke up in 1996, reformed briefly for some reunion shows in 2003, and now in 2010 are touring and writing for a new album.
