Something about the quirky band known as The God Machine struck a chord with me. Scenes From The Second Storey was the very first album I bought in 1993, with practically no prior knowledge of the band, but it has stood the test of time. Overall, this isn't a great year, with the second five bands a bit on the weak side compared to other years.

With five or six bands here being either full-on death metal bands or at least with significant death influences, 1993 seems to herald the peak of the death metal genre. Cynic's only album, an underground gem, gets its somewhat surprising (though definitely deserved) due.
