The 69 Eyes  


Somewhat of an institution in their home country of Finland, The 69 Eyes formed back in 1989 and have released a slew of albums since debuting in 1992 (the only one reviewed here is their ninth, 2007's Angels) These guys are really more rock than metal, laced with gothisms and punctuated by Jyrki's classically goth deep male vocals -- in fact, the phrase "goth'n'roll" has been used to describe them. Nonetheless, they're sufficiently heavy to appeal to the goth rock crowd (think H.I.M., To/Die/For, etc., and to a lesser extent, Type O Negative for inspiration if not direct style), and they're enjoyable and admittedly quite catchy.
