Amboog-A-Lard

The oddly-named Amboog-A-Lard was founded in Florida in the late eighties by the trio of Dan Fontana, Barry Alpert, and George Kokkoris. They never hit the big time, but they are known for featuring longtime Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez (here, under his real name Jeordie White). In their early years they cultivated a healthy following in the Florida area, opening for major bands, recording a couple of demos, and things were starting to look good for the band. But their timing was off, as thrash was fading in the early nineties and grunge/alternative was taking over, and the usual personality conflicts that plague many a band were present here as well. Amidst several lineup changes (including the departures of founding members Alpert and Kokkoris), they finally managed to record one album, A New Hope, in 1993, but they weren't able to capitalize on that, and with White's move to Manson, sole remaining founding member Dan Fontana put an end to the group around 1996. The album, with lyrics loosely based on Star Wars of all things, is somewhat of a quirky thrash album, uneven though with a fair bit of originality.
