Angel Witch

Angel Witch's self-titled debut album remains a classic to this day, and a defining moment of the NWOBHM genre, containing such tracks as crowd favorite "Angel Witch" and the utterly brilliant "Angel Of Death" -- indeed, modern doom bands such as Candlemass found much inspiration from that debut. Sadly, due to internal strife and general misfortune, the band never really came close to matching that first album, instead enduring countless lineup changes as founder Kevin Heybourne continually worked to regain that early magic. The first breakup occured shortly after the release of the Loser EP, with the then-rhythm section moving on to form Tytan. After a brief stint in a band called Deep Machine, Heybourne resurrected a new lineup that would produce the live album released many years later, as 82 Revisited. Another breakup ensued, and in 1985 Heybourne tried again, but after releasing the next two albums (the seldom-mentioned Screamin' And Bleedin' and Frontal Assault, both decent enough but most forgotten), the band once again broke up, and since then the band has broken up and reformed with new members on a seemingly annual basis. The lineup shown below is of late 2008.
