Apollyon Sun

Apollyon Sun is the latest venture fronted by Tom Fischer, aka Tom Warrior, the man behind Celtic Frost, and before that, Hellhammer. And just as Celtic Frost retained some of Hellhammer's sound while transforming into something different, so does Apollyon Sun keep a bit of the Celtic Frost style while branching into something quite unique. Sub, the 2000 full-length debut release, features a distinct mixing of styles here, melding classic Frost guitars and vocals (though other vocal styles are evident) with industrial influences, sampling, and a variety of interesting drum beats from Marky Edelmann. It's definitely different, hard to describe, but to these ears an impressive and interesting release.

It appears that Apollyon Sun is inactive as of this writing (March 2004). Tom has been in negotiations to put out a Celtic Frost/Hellhammer anthology, and there may yet be a new Celtic Frost recording in the future.
