Chimaira

Self-proclaimed leaders of the "new wave of American heavy metal", Chimaira formed in Cleveland in 1998, recording the indie This Present Darkness album in 2000 before earning a contract with Roadrunner for their next two releases. The band's early style might be described as aggro, post-thrash metalcore, with one somewhat similar band (not a direct soundalike, but a comparable band) being Lamb Of God. In the intervening years the band forged a solid mid-level career, remaining relevant in the scene if not breaking through to superstardom, and the usual lineup changes no doubt took their toll (by 2009, only vocalist Mark Hunter remained from the early days). Fifteen years after the release of their debut, the band called it a day in September 2014 to pursue other interests.
