Dark Moor  


Dark Moor is one of Spain's leading power metal bands, having formed in 1993 and releasing a string of albums starting with Shadowland in 1999. Reviewed here is The Gates Of Oblivion, the last full-length album recorded before the band underwent a major lineup change. Oblivion is a standard classically-influenced Euro speed/power metal album, drawing from familiar influences in the field such as Rhapsody Of Fire, Blind Guardian, and Stratovarius. It's well done, but the songs are a tad samey, and apart from being fronted by a female vocalist (the very capable Elisa Martin), there's not really a lot to distinguish Dark Moor from the many other bands playing this style -- at this juncture they have yet to forge a truly unique identity. Nonetheless, the band remains popular among Euro power metal fans.

As previously mentioned, the band essentially split in two following Oblivion, with Martin and two others leaving due to musical differences (eventually forming Dreamaker), while the remaining duo has recruited a new lineup and continues to flourish.
