Dio

Ronnie James Dio is much beloved in the world of metal.
After fronting an obscure hard rock band called Elf in the
early seventies, he achieved fame and fortune with his stints
in
Rainbow
and
Black Sabbath
before striking out on his own in the early eighties.
Featuring a then-unknown guitarist in
Vivian Campbell
(who himself went on to great success in
Def Leppard),
Dio's first two albums,
Holy Diver
and
The Last In Line, are
highly regarded 80's metal classics.
Like many a music veteran, he is best remember for his early work,
but he has maintained a consistently high quality of music, and he's
has always had that classic voice,
delivering the goods even in his 60's with his work here as well
as a recent stint with his old Sabbath pals in
Heaven And Hell.
All in all, he has had a distinguished musical career,
a career that has now sadly come to an end, as he passed away in May 2010
from cancer.
He will always be remembered as one of the great vocalists in metal.
