Eidolon

Formed in 1993 by the Drover brothers Glen and Shawn, Eidolon is Canada's entry in the pure metal field. This band packs a punch, solidly entrenched in the crunchy power/semi-thrash field, placing them neatly alongside bands such as Nevermore, Steel Prophet, or labelmates Jacob's Dream. Though they occasionally rev up to thrash speed, most of their songs are slow to mid-paced, with the requisite crunchy riffs and impressive solos by Glen Drover, who apart from his work here also appeared on King Diamond's House Of God album, also released in 2000. If there's a criticism here, it's the songwriting that isn't always up to par -- the band clearly and righteously stands for old-school pure heavy metal, but a touch more diversity wouldn't go amiss. Still, this is a quality band that hasn't quite gotten the exposure it needs to step up to the next level. The Drover brothers are currently playing in Megadeth but this band continues onward, releasing a new album in 2006 with new singer Nils K. Rue, borrowed from Pagan's Mind.
