Engine

Engine is the solo project of Ray Alder
(
Fates Warning),
formed a few years ago as an creative outlet during Fates' down
times.
With two other Fates cronies in tow, one might expect at least a
passing resemblance to Alder's main band, but that's not the case
here.
Instead, Engine is a modern, groove-oriented power metal band,
slightly leaning toward the non-rap side of nu-metal.
Alder is in excellent form here, allowed to be a bit more powerful
than in Fates Warning, and the rest of the band match him in terms
of class and style.
With a second album,
Superholic, now released, this appears to
be more than a casual side project for Alder and crew.
