Evoken
The extreme doomdeath band Evoken was formed in April of 1992,
debuting with the
Shades Of Night Descending EP in 1995,
followed by two full-length albums in 1998 and 2001.
Some place this band in the funeral doom camp, but comparing Evoken
with a classic funeral band such as
Skepticism
reveals that Evoken is a bit closer to standard doomdeath, and they
do not employ the church organs, though keyboards are prevalent.
Quietus, their most recent album, has a decent variance in mood,
though the band practically never shifts gears tempo-wise as they
stick to the ultra-slow riffing, and the death growls are similarly
one-dimensional, though not enough to detract from the overall
sound.
Certainly not the most joyous of bands, but they play this style
convincingly.
