The Hand Of Doom

Poisonoise is an odd little record that was the sole release of a late-70's band by the name of The Hand Of Doom. The band name might imply a Sabbathy affair, but no, this is much closer to the early sounds of the NWOBHM, which makes sense as it was released in 1979, just as that movement was getting off the ground. So you've got tinny, buzzy guitars, a lot of youthful aggression, and a style that sometimes borders on punk, sometimes straight hard rock, and the rest hinting at that darker tones of the best of the NWOBHM (another reviewer noted Crysys, another non-NWOBHM band from this time period, as a soundalike). The original vinyl release numbered only 500 copies and so is quite the collector's item, but once again Shadow Kingdom Records has come through, re-releasing the album in 2009.
