Ion Dissonance

Canada (specifically, the Quebec region) continues to churn out impressive bands in the tech/death/core realm, and that's precisely where Ion Dissonance dwells. This is crazed, twisted, stop-start, jumpy tech metal, full of twists and turns and pretty much devoid of standard song structure, even if they might stop short of full-on The Dillinger Escape Plan-style craziness (but they're close). It's a harsh, brutal listen, and the ferocious hardcore-ish vocals only add to the intensity. Like other bands in this field, the level of musicianship is beyond impressive, particularly the drumming which is outstanding. Most of the songs are mercifully short and to the point, but then there is the 11+ mminutes of "A Prelude Of Things Worst To Come", a bleak, Godflesh-ish soundscape. Admittedly, this is not a favorite BNR style, but these guys are mighty impressive at what they do.
