Lacrimas Profundere  


Lacrimas Profundere was founded in 1993 by Oliver Schmid, who along with his brother Christopher remain the sole original members of the band. Their style is a blend of doom and gothic metal, borrowing from both camps while injecting their own originality to the mixture (mid-period Anathema is an oft-cited reference point), with their later material drifting away from doom toward the Katatonia-styled melancholic style. They have not been afraid of incorporating non-metal instruments to their sound, having previously employed a harpist, a violinist, and a flutist. The band has a fine sense of melody and atmosphere, with the two albums reviewed here (Memorandum* and *Burning) fine examples of gothic doom metal.
