Lordi  


Lordi is anything but a typical Finnish band. Clearly Gwar is a major influence visually, as they've got those larger-than-life monster costumes going for them. On the other hand, musically they are somewhat in the darker hard rock world, reminiscient of, say, W.A.S.P. with a dash of early White Zombie thrown in. Admittedly some of the songs here, such as "Blood Red Sandman" and "Kalmageddon", are pretty catchy, and with so many bands these days locking into one genre or another and simply copying each other, Lordi's style is kind of original, even if pretty simplistic. Clearly not a band to be taken very seriously, but they are fun to listen to, and no doubt a sight to behold live. They pulled off a major coup in 2006 by winning the Eurovision Song Contest, a prestigious accomplishment for any band and a major surprise, as the contest is usually won by pop groups.
