Lunatic Gods

Lunatic Gods are one of those quirky, difficult-to-describe bands that appear from time to time, usually playing to a smaller, select audience rather than seeking superstardom. They don't easily slot into any one genre, as they liberally borrow from the gothic, black and death metal styles, with both clean and harsh vocals, as well as their own unique twists and turns. Countries like the Czech Republic and Slovakia (where these guys are from) seem to have a monopoly on similarly-styled, complex bands, a welcome sight given how many bands simply follow a trend rather than attempting something original. The two albums reviewed here are the earlier Sitting By The Fire (1998) and the newer Ante Portas (2007) -- while both share similarities in their basic approach, it's clear they have matured greatly as their career has progressed.
