Lycanthia

Lycanthia formed in 1996 and self-released their first
album,
Myriad, in 1999.
Myriad is an ambitious, moody, gothic/doom effort that sometimes
hits the mark but other times is a bit lacking.
The singing, provided by a trio of members, is a weak spot --
Natalie Crawford's vocals are thin and lack strength, and drummer
Lachlan Donaldson's clean, semi-operatic tone sounds forced, though
Lee Tassaker's
sparse death growls are effective.
Musically, there is a variety of moods and shades at work, again
showing hints of greatness but too often coming across as a bit
underdeveloped.
Since
Myriad the band has gone a near-complete
lineup overhaul, with only Tassaker remaining
from the album that recorded the album, and finally in 2006 a new EP,
Within The Walls, was released.
