Necrophobic  

This venerable Swedish combo (named for a Slayer song) was founded by the pair of David Parland and Joakim Sterner in 1989, and while they haven't risen to major league status, they have done quite well for themselves. Stylistically, they fall into the camp often labelled "blackened death metal", and yes, their sound does incorporate elements of both black and death metal, though to these ears the black metal influences are stronger (so, "deathly black metal"?). Now more than a decade into their career, the band are finely honing their craft, with 2009's Death To All really showing what the band can do. This isn't a case of stunning originality, but merely incorporating their influences, adding their own touches, and doing it right.
