Primus  


As time marches on, the quirky, alternative funk trio Primus becomes less and less relevant to a site devoted to metal. Yet their place here is secure, as they have clear metallic lineage, with Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde previously playing in the thrash band Blind Illusion and LaLonde earlier appearing in the seminal thrash/death band Possessed. And there are definite metallic tendencies throughout their work, though quite evidently more prevalent on the earlier work such as Frizzle Fry (still the BNR choice for their best work) and Sailing The Seas Of Cheese. Primus are truly in a world of their own, with a style completely unlike any other, with Claypool's inventive basswork, quirky vocals, and offbeat lyrics the obvious focal points. Despite the fact that calling them a metal band is a stretch, they remain a BNR favorite.

The original lineup is now back together, for the first time in almost a decade. A new EP has been released, nicely packaged with a DVD containing all of their old videos along with the usual extra footage and goodies associated with DVDs.
