Shakespeare In Hell

An intriguing idea from this Louisiana band -- taking
the works of William Shakespeare and melding them with
a metal base.
Musically the band draws from gothic metal with some
black metal touches, giving the band a distinct
European flavor, with both blackened rasps and
death-ish growls featured in the vocal department.
The band has a nice flair for songwriting and
the musicianship is fine as well, with perhaps the
only criticism being a slightly thin production, expected
for a self-financed band.
With two albums released thus far (the first,
Hecate,
based on Hamlet and Macbeth, with the second drawing
from The Tempest), the group has stated that their
next album will not feature Shakespearean lyrics, though
that doesn't necessarily mean the band won't return to
the concept on future releases.
Even without the novelty of the lyrical concept,
Shakespeare In Hell is a band worthy of further
investigation.
