Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy
The ambitiously named Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy belongs
to that small cadre of eclectic Czech bands, alongside
Forgotten Silence,
Love History,
and
Root.
SSoGE don't sound like any of those bands (nor do they really
sound like anyone else), but they do share the same passion
for interesting and diverse music.
They describe themselves as "Slavonic pagan doom", and that's
a reasonable initial description.
The pace of their music is on the slow side, befitting a doom
band, and with both a cellist and a violinist making major
contributions, one does find plenty of somber moments.
But their inclusion of traditional folk melodies really sets
this band apart, giving them a strangely upbeat style that
effectively contrasts the doom elements.
Like their aforementioned countrymen, the songwriting is quite
diverse, with no two albums, or even songs, being very similar
to each other.
A very intriguing band.
