Formed after the demise of Lions Breed, Scanner released its debut album, Hypertrace, in 1988, scoring a bit of notoriety as their image and lyrics were heavily based in science fiction, atypical for metal in general. The music itself was decent if not outstanding typical Germanic metal of the period. Guitarist Axel Julius has keep the band going for fifteen years now, recording a new album every few years with what seems like almost constant lineup changes, with their latest being Scantropolis, released in 2002.
