Sirens Of Titan

Named for the Kurt Vonnegut novel, this Minneapolis quartet formed around 2005 and had a vision for their style from the start, drawing from the past but with an eye toward something unique and original. In due time the lineup stabilized and a self-titled debut album was recorded in 2007. This might be described as post-grunge, slightly stoner-ish, blues-tinged heavy rock/metal (cross Soundgarden with Clutch and you're halfway there), full of monstrous riffs, plenty of twists and turns, and highlighted by the wonderful singing of Felicia Mitchell. Her vocals are soaring and powerful, compared by someone to Grace Slick, a good call. This isn't keeping in lines with current metal trends, but nor is it simply a retro rehash -- it's original, invigorating, and there's definitely a market for this style. Hopefully this isn't the last we've heard of Sirens Of Titan.
