To/Die/For

Finland had (and still does have) a stranglehold on the goth rock scene, with bands like H.I.M., Poisonblack, The 69 Eyes and others leading the way, and To/Die/For was right there with them, mixing late-period Sentenced riffing with Depeche Mode-style vocal croonings to good effect. The band endured its share of ups and downs, perhaps most notably being the vocalist leaving the band in 2004 to start a new band, only to end up calling the new band To/Die/For, which must have annoyed the former members to no end. The new band thus continued the TDF tradition, while the others, after initially announcing an intent to fight back, eventually gave up in disgust. The new version continued until 2009, then broke up, and then reformed again, carrying on until mid-2016, when another breakup was officially announced.
