Led by outrageous frontman Blackie Lawless, WASP emerged from Los Angeles in the early 80's and quickly rose to stardom with their over-the-top live shows and their anthemic, chorus-laden hard rock, which could be likened to a raunchier version of Kiss. Not surprisingly, they drew the ire of the then-new PMRC, an organization that strove to censor album lyrics, but really this just made WASP all the more popular. Throughout the years the band has had its ups and downs, popular periods and not-so-popular periods, and several lineup changes, but Blackie has soldiered on nonetheless.
