Wino
For those few who don't know, Wino is one Scott Weinrich, a revered
man in the underground doom metal world.
Since the late 70's he has plied his trade, never seeking superstardom
but content to play his music on his terms.
He has led three great bands of his own
(
The Obsessed,
Spirit Caravan,
and
The Hidden Hand),
as well as hooking up in
St. Vitus
and
Place Of Skulls
for a time.
For whatever reason, both his stints in other bands and his own never last
more than a few years, and perhaps with that in mind, he finally
went solo debuting in 2009 with
Punctuated Equilibrium.
Wino has always been about high-class, stoner-influenced doom metal,
and that's the case here as well, his guitar work and vocals in top-notch
form as always, with his new rhythm of
Clutch
drummer Jean-Paul Gaster and bassist Jon Blank (sadly, recently deceased)
supporting Wino in fine fashion.
There's really no surprises here for the Wino fan, just more high-quality
stoner/doom from the man himself.
More recently he has teamed up with Conny Ochs and the duo have been
performing mostly acoustic sets.
