Wizard
Formed in 1989 by drummer Snoppi,
Wizard is one of many "true" metal bands from Germany,
a country that apparently just can't get enough of this kind of
music.
A quick glance of song and (especially) album titles is all one
needs to know to figure out where these guys are coming from.
Musically, recent
Manowar
is the clear reference
(at least as heard on
Bound By Metal, one guesses that
they've probably branched out some now four albums later),
almost to the point of cloning or
plagiarism
(the opening riff of "Battlefield Of Death" is a direct steal
of some Manowar tune, and "Bound By Metal" is absolute
Manowar worship).
Their hearts are in the right place, but some degree of originality
would be nice
(a band with no fewer than five songs with "metal" in the title
needs to broaden their horizons just a bit), though for sheer
conviction they can't be faulted.
