Apparently one of Serbia's top metal bands, Alogia
formed in 2000 and released two albums in their native country,
and then decided to branch out to the Western market by signing
to the Spanish label Locomotive Records and re-releasing their
debut album with English lyrics, resulting in Secret Spheres Of Art.
Much of the album is typical Euro upbeat power metal, particularly
songs such as "Samson" and "Legend Of A Stolen Heart", though
they also go for a more accessible hard rock style on "As The Time
Passes By".
However, the two newly recorded songs for the re-release
("Secret Sphere" and "Politics Of War") are noticeably different,
clearly going for a heavier, prog metal sound that showcases the
members' impressive musicianship at its best.
Nikola Mijic has one of those love-him-or-hate-him higher pitched
vocal styles that many current Euro bands employ, occasionally
just a tad shrill though usually he stays on track.
As far as blazing originality goes, that's not the goal here, though
the aforementioned prog leanings may eventually serve the band
better than simple power metal.
A fine effort for a band that may yet gain some international fame.
