Astarte

Astarte was a Greek black metal band who happened to be all female (well, almost -- the band is a female trio with a session male drummer). Their early material was old-school black metal by the numbers, as they sound much more Norwegian than Greek and the tortured vocals of Tristessa and/or Kinthia certainly don't sound like typical female vocals, instead harkening to any number of traditional male black vocals. The band released three albums with a stable lineup, followed by a split, with Tristessa going it alone with a new lineup, releasing albums in 2004 and 2007. By the time of Tristessa's unfortunate passing in 2014 the lineup had mutated several times, and the remaining members decided to rename themselves as Lloth, which in fact was the name of the pre-Astarte band founded by Tristessa.
