Astronoid

This Massachusetts band made quite a few waves with their 2016 release simply entitled Air, with many attempting to wrap their heads around this quite unique band. Musically, the band seems to operate in a sort of proggy, post-metal, vaguely black-metal-influenced world, with a majestic wall-of-sound style that clearly evokes mid-period Devin Townsend Project (an admitted influence), not that these guys are cloning Devin. Conversely, the vocals (arguably the make-or-break feature of the group) are ethereal, clean, harmonized, and decidedly un-metallic, which may be a good or bad thing depending on one's mood, but they are defintely unique. There is considerable musical chops on display, yet not so much in a show-off way. One of the more unique albums to emerge in years, it'll be interesting to see how/if they progress.
