Burning Witches

This Swiss all-female quintet came into being in 2015, quickly making a name for themselves by getting their demo recognized by Metal Hammer magazine as demo of the month, which no doubt helped them secure a record deal with Nuclear Blast. Their 2017 self-titled debut sees them firmly entrenched in the traditional metal mold, with 80's era Judas Priest being one of the closer soundalikes (the album closes with a cover of Priest's "Jawbreaker", which feels right at home). The band takes few chances songwriting-wise, but the performances are solid, and vocalist Seraina Telli's vocals are strong and show considerable range. Too soon to tell how far the band can go, but Burning Witches gets them off to a good start.
