Celesty

This Finnish band formed in 1998 and went the usual route of recording demos before releasing their first album in 2002, with their most recent album as of this writing being Vendetta, released in 2010. Celesty has pulled all the stops here, with choirs and an orchestra accompanying their symphonic power metal base. From swirling keyboards to double-bass drumming to rather cheesy lyrics, Vendetta has it all -- the most frequently mentioned soundalike are fellow Finns Sonata Arctica, alongside other leaders of the genre such as Stratovarius or Rhapsody Of Fire. Truth be told, they're not re-inventing the wheel here, but based on sheer execution and majesty, these guys are well above the curve. A trivia note: their current vocalist, Tony Turunen, is the brother of former Nightwish soprano Tarja Turunen.

As of January 2012 the band is on indefinite hiatus.
