Dungeon

The origin of Dungeon dates back to 1989, when some friends, led by one Lord Tim, formed a band in the Australian outback town of Broken Hill. By 1994 the band had stabilized to the point that a promotional EP, dubbed Changing Moods, was recorded, in hopes of attracting a record deal. The Japanese TDK-Core label liked the EP enough so that it, along with some demo tracks, were packaged as is, as Demolition in 1996. Their proper first album, Resurrection, followed three years later, and finally a worldwide release for their 2002 recording, A Rise To Power. Australia hasn't produced a great number of internationally known power metal bands (Pegazus is one of the few that might come to mind), but Dungeon does the Euro power metal style as well as anyone, regardless of nationality, with soaring clear melodic vocals courtesy of Lord Tim, alongside the requisite power metal riffing, double-bass drumming, and general Germanic songwriting, though on occasion they branch out a bit, as on the frenetic "Traumatized". It goes without saying that bands in this style aren't about originality, and that holds true for Dungeon as well, but they clearly deliver the power metal goods with style. The band broke up in late 2005, with Lord Tim reviving his onetime solo project, Lord.
