Exhorder

It has been claimed that Exhorder more or less invented the sort of angry, 90's post-thrash metal often attributed to Pantera. It's not really clear who was first (and ultimately it may not matter much), but the resemblance between The Law and Pantera's Cowboys From Hell is clear, with stripped-down rhythm guitars, heavy double-bass drumming, and angry vocals complimenting the basic American thrash style of the late 80's. But while Pantera soared, Exhorder stalled, breaking up after two early-nineties albums. Vocalist Kyle Thomas has either formed or joined a number of bands in the succeeding years, and periodically stated that he hoped to revive Exhorder one day. That day came in 2008, when a mostly original lineup came back together to start anew. Sadly, that effort has also stalled, with the passing of their bassist as well as personality and business conflicts taking their toll. Thomas and guitarist Jay Ceravolo withdrew from the band in October 2011, which may well signal the end of their attempted comeback.
