Hellfighter
Hellfighter is in some sense a continuation of the mighty
Xentrix,
who reigned as one of England's top thrash bands during the genre's
heyday.
This band features two core Xentrix members in guitarist Kristian Havard
and drummer Dennis Gasser, as well as vocalist Simon Gordon who appeared
on that band's 1996 reunion album
Scourge.
While there are expected similarities here, Hellfighter is a step in
a different direction, trading in the trademark 80's Xentrix thras style
for a more midpaced, melodic groove thrash sound, in particular Gordon's
vocals are more melodic than the typical thrash bark.
Damnation's Wings isn't going to set the world on fire but it's a
solid album in a somewhat underrepresented genre.
Xentrix reformed in 2013 and Havard and Gasser are seemingly more focused
there as of this writing, though both bands appear to be active.
