Jex Thoth
The psychedelic doom band Jex Thoth originally appeared on the scene
as Totem, releasing a self-titled EP in 2007 before changing name
(that EP was re-released under their new name two years later).
At the time the core of the band was then-husband-and-wife Grim Jim
and Jex Thoth; he later moved on, but she
carried on, and their second full-length album, 2013's
Blood Moon Rise, is a stunner.
Jex is the star here; her clear, commanding, and melodic vocals complement
the tunes perfectly, while the music remains melancholic but not dreary,
with light psychedelic touches and plenty of mood.
