M.A.R.S.
This imaginatively-titled supergroup (named simply for the first initials
of the band members) came and went without a great deal of fanfare
despite the pedigree of those involved.
Formed by the rhythm section of Rudy Sarzo
(between
Quiet Riot
stints at the time)
and Tommy Aldridge, the
band put out one album,
Project: Driver (apparently a reference to
the earlier name of the project) in 1986 on
Shrapnel
Records (no surprise there given the appearance of Tony MacAlpine),
a pretty standard anthemic hard rock/metal affair for the most part.
Sure, MacAlpine and vocalist Rob Rock shine, but from a songwriting
standpoint this is rather ordinary, and the album got some decent play
in its time but ultimately didn't really set the world on fire.
Last Lineup
Rob Rock
vocals (Impellitteri, ex-Axel Rudi Pell, ex-Warrior)
Tony MacAlpine
guitars (ex-Planet X)
Rudy Sarzo
bass (ex-Blue Oyster Cult, ex-Dio, ex-Operation: Mindcrime, ex-Ozzy Osbourne, ex-Quiet Riot, ex-Whitesnake)
Tommy Aldridge
drums (ex-Motorhead, ex-Ted Nugent, ex-Ozzy Osbourne, ex-Thin Lizzy, ex-Whitesnake)
