Obsidious

Obsidious formed when three-fourths of the tech band Obscura left following that band's 2018 effort Diluvium, leaving founder Steffen Kummerer to move forward with new membership. Anyone familiar with Obscura will expect technical wizardry in the musicianship department, and Obsidious definitely delivers on that front, but this band is not a continuation of the Obscura style. Thanks in part to vocalist Javi Perera (who deftly handles clean as well as harsh vocals, excelling at both) as well as a slightly more accessible writing style, 2022's Iconic is far more technical progressive metal than technical death metal. This is still tech metal though, with plenty of flashy musicianship and a harder edge than tradition prog metal, and as such should check boxes for fans of well-executed, mean tech prog metal.
